Mutianyu Great Wall

慕田峪长城

The restored-but-real section most locals recommend for first-timers — with a toboggan down.

Should I go? Worth it

Our pick for a first visit: steep, scenic and far calmer than Badaling. Ride the cable car up, walk west towards tower 20 where it thins out, then take the toboggan down — it’s silly, and locals love it too.

Better: If you want wilder, unrestored wall, locals hike Jiankou → Mutianyu with a guide.
