The three ways in

30-day visa-free entry

For tourism, business, visiting friends and family, exchanges, or transit. Arrive at any open port and stay up to 30 days per entry. Covers many European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and more — some unilateral (extended through 31 Dec 2026), some mutual agreements.

240-hour visa-free transit

For citizens of 55 countries passing through China: fly in from country A, leave within 240 hours to country or region B (not back to A). Enter at one of 65 designated ports and stay inside the 24 permitted provinces. Tell your airline and the border officer you’re using it.

Tourist visa (L)

Everyone else — or trips longer than the visa-free limits — applies at a Chinese embassy or visa centre. Allow 1–3 weeks; you’ll usually need a return ticket and hotel bookings.

Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan residents use their own travel permits, not this checker. Hainan Island has a separate 30-day visa-free scheme for 59 countries.
