Huge on Chinese social media. Fun, but pricey, far out, and packed on weekends and holidays.

Universal Beijing opened in 2021 and remains one of the most-posted places in the city. The Kung Fu Panda and Harry Potter areas are the favourites.

Locals’ consensus: go on a weekday outside school holidays, buy an express pass if you can, and budget a full day — it’s about an hour from central Beijing by Metro Line 7 or the Batong line.

If you have only three or four days in Beijing, most locals would spend them on the Great Wall and the old city instead.
